I prefer the 300 win mag but also agree with Ridge Runner I'd make it a 7mm STW and reach out reach out and touch someone.

But here's my personal load for my 300 win mag and there's a big difference vs. a regular 7mm Rem Mag. And that's at sea level take it to the altitude I live at and it becomes a super magnum at long ranges.

Range (yards) Muzzle 50 100 200 300 400 500
Velocity (fps) 3180 3085 2993 2813 2641 2475 2315
Energy (ft.-lb.) 3705 3487 3281 2900 2555 2244 1964
Trajectory (200 yd. zero) -1.5 0.3 1.2 0.0 -5.6 -16.1 -32.3
Come Up in MOA -1.5 -0.6 -1.1 0.0 1.8 3.8 6.2

I was looking at a new rifle recently and was considering the 300, 300 WSM, 300 RSAUM, 7mmRM, 7mm RUM but came across a custom built 7mm STW with 30 rounds through it. I studied up as I had never heard of the STW previously. I ended up with the STW and I am all giddy about it after shooting it.

I am currently working on a load with the barnes TTSX in 140 grain. It's just been so windy that I haven't been able to get out and develope it. If I can get them to shoot I will be a happy camper and hunt everything with that one load.

You can't go wrong. That said, the 300 win mag has a more energy and I noticed you want to hunt moose. That extra energy the 300 win mag has might be needed. I have owned both but now I have just the 300 win mag and I would note part with it. Shooting past 350-400 yd is for the expert shooter. I do not belong in that class. Do you? Jim
