The 12 ga 3.5" Mag Turkey loads kick more than my 338 RUM which does not have a brake or porting.

I have shot Mossberg "turkey" shotguns and some of the
biggest big bore rifles. The following is my opinion per my
own experience.

Mossberg 10 gauge turkey load...teeth shattering recoil.
Hard, straight back in your face, shoulder shaking, flesh
bruising slam...ouch.

I have shot a 458 Winchester mag (hefty slow shove
backwards with authority but bearable...great stock
design worked and fit me nearly perfectly), 375 H&H
in a Winchester model 70 synthetic stock (hard shove
that was relatively quick...not a lot of muzzle lift...
bearable). 338 Winchester mag chambered in Ruger
model 77 (fast but bearable shove backward...did not
hurt at all, but loud...the Ruger straight stock worked
well). 460 Weatherby mag (awesome shove backward...
loud and powerful. The Weatherby designed stock
worked. It was a brute but bearable!) 300 Ultra mag
chambered in the Remington model 700 BDL (a quick
slap in the face...teeth shattering...jaw breaking...
loud bellowing cartridge...there was no controlling
the muzzle flip. Shooting this rifle was like trying to
pass gas while fighting off a mountain lion!)

But, having said all that, the absolute worse felt
recoil I ever experienced came from a 270 Winchester
chambered in a Remington model 700 BDL. I shot this
rifle in east Texas in the 1970's. The stock design
was awful and it did not fit me. I was shooting 150
grain Remington ammo if memory serves me accurately.
Every time I pulled the trigger it was like I was being
hit in the shoulder with a hammer and stuck in the
same spot by a dentists' needle! Compared to this
rifle, the 10 gauge turkey fired in the Mossberg was
like a handshake.

Have a great week-end,

OK, 2 weeks ago I bought a Mossberg 535 Tactical and went straight to the targets.

To make this short I shot (5) 2"3/4 slugs back to back and wasn't bothered or concerned with recoil. Then I grabed my 3.5" Winchester Supreme Turkey loads... Man O' Man; I shot (2) and called it a day. I thought my shoulder was going to break. Seriously, I was amazed of the kick. I'm just glad it'll be one shot one kill when Turkey season rolls around.
