Has anyone had any experience with gary reeders 455GNR and the 454? I'm trying to decide with cal to have my six gun chambered too. Ive owned a 454 and the recoil was pretty stout but nothing I could not handle. Reeder told me the 455GNR is the same as the 454 but much less recoil. Balisticly speaking is the 455GNR able to out do the 454?

I bought a .460 Smith because it can use three types of ammo (.45 LC, 454 Casul, and the .460 Smith). It really tames the 454 and the .460 shoots point of aim at 200 yds with the Hornady 200 grainers. It's a nice pistol and if the bullet misses them the flame gets 'em.!

I understand what you are saying and agree completely. I'm quoting what Gary Reeder claims with his new cartridge the 455GNR does. Quote " the 455 GNR will produce the same ballistics are the 454 with less recoil, how I don’t know. Again, I understanding what you are saying and it gives me something to ask Gary Reeder. Now, about out performing, the 455GNR has 8% more case capacity which stands to reason you should be able get a little more out of it, and yes with more recoil. It’s not the recoil I am really concerned with. I would like to get a little more out of the cartridge and was asking not for ballistic theory particularly but rather in actuality. Like from someone that has loaded and shot the 455GNR.

Ol'Mongo...... One day I'll have me a 460V. For now it will have to be my 5 shot 45LC. However, I'm considering re-chambering the old Ruger for now, either the 454 or 455GNR just not sure about his 455GNR. Reeder charges 150.00 to re-chamber. I use my Ruger for back up. I hunt Elk/Moose in grizzly country and like a back up close at hand. I hunt with a Winchester 1886 chamber in 45-90. My hat is off to you and your 460. I think the 460 S&W is a great gun. It very versatile by being able to shoot 4 different cartridges.
