new shotgun?
#1
Hello, im in the market for a new shotgun. I would prefer a semi-auto or an over/under shotgun since I want to upgrade from my Mossberg 500 pump. I LOVE the mossberg 500. i have had it for 2 years. i have never had a problem with it, it just feels like its time to upgrade. i would like some suggestions, but what i am basically looking for is a multi-purpose shotgun. i will be hunting ducks, geese, pheasants, rabbits, coyotes, and some clays. But i am a lefty. so it would help if the shotgun has a top tang safety or an ambidextrous safety. the price range probably would be up to a grand. thank you for any input!

Benelli Super Black Eagle II would be my choice. If on a budget and want a great buckshot gun the Remington 1100 Magnum with the 30" barrel would be my choice. I wouldn't want a newer Remington though. The 1100 magnums aren't good for light loads for rabbits, skeet, squirrel, etc though unless you get another barrel for a 2 3/4" version. If you only need a 2 3/4" gun the older 1100's in 2 3/4" are also great guns. I wouldn't want a new 11-87 or 1100 though.

After re-reading your post, here is some better advise:
Save the Mossberg 500 for your dirty work with ducks and geese. Get a Browning Citori. Another pump is just a pump. An auto will be a pain in the butt for a lefty. Only thing to watch for is cast, since most guns are set up for righty...

thanks everyone for their input! It has helped me narrow it down a bit. But the Franchi I-12 got me drooling.. I dont really like the Remington 11-87, my dad has one. I dont like it because it doesnt fit me well, so i will have to eliminate that choice. Another gun i was looking at is the Winchester Sx3.

its a bit pricey, but from what i hear its a really nice gun. would any of you know about it? I should head to my local hunting stores and check out some guns. obviously, i dont want to spend money on something that i cant shoulder well. i want a gun that you can actually shoot and not use for an oar on your way out of the swamps

Yup. Try the forum at "shotgun world" to help narrow your choice. O/U's are the way to go. 12 ga. 28" or 30" barrels. Spend the money and get it to fit you, you won't be looking for something else...
And don't worry about the dirty work. Mine likes the duck blind.

I would adives you to go to a gun shop and try a lot of different shotguns. They make a few left handed models. I know bennelli makes left hand models and there are more out there. Find the one you are happy with ,no matter what the brand.
