Is it legal for a person to buy a gun for a friend for xmas present or birthday gift. I have a good friend who is wanting a rifle. Well a 10/22 i am thinking about getting him it for a xmas/birthday gift as there around the same time. Can i legaly got buy it myself and give it to him. Or would he need to go pick it up and fill out the NCIC check. I am not talking a straw purchase. He has bought three handguns and has a CCP. SO it is not like he can not buy one. I am also not to worried about the thing of it being bought in my name. He is 75 and has never had anything more then a speeding ticket.

I'm no lawyer, but I don't see any problem in it. Before we turn 18, that's the only way we can get a rifle/shotgun. It's not like you have knowledge he cannot lawfully own a gun, or you know he will use it in a criminal act.

If you are buying an actual gift for someone with your money and not theirs then it is perfectly legal.

If you are buying a gun for someone else that is not permitted to own a firearm for what ever reason it is illegal.

If you are buying a gun for someone with the intention of them paying you back then it is illegal.

kind of what i figured. When i bought my glock i was saving money and he offered to go buy it and let me pay him back in payments. I did not as i was worried it might be on the line alittle to much. Though i guess i could have bought it myself with his money. Just did not want to risk it.
