Default 30-30 loads

Just curious what loads are you guys useing in your 30-30's? and also what kind of groups do you get at 100yds with it.I never did bother with shooting groups with my guns until a few years ago,i'd just get a steady rest and just sight it in that way,but now im useing a gun vise when shooting them in,so I can get them as accurate as possible. And im shooting winchester 150gr powerpoints in my 30-30 and I shot a 100 yd group (ranged) and I was getting like 2.5 inch group, maybe 3 inch..My 30-06 will put winchester 180gr powerpoints in .5 inch groups or less at 100 yds,it really shoots them well.I know each gun is different, but is this to be expected out of the 30-30? Or should it be shooting tighter groups.I know its plenty of accurate enough to kill a deer, but i'd like to shrink the groups down, think im gonna try the hornadyleverlution ammo..

Hornady leverevolution is the way to go. It's a pointed boattail 160 grain bullet travelling at 2400 fps, that's faster than most 150 grain round nose bullets. The Hornady guy who I talked to told me that the rubber tip really helps with expansion. When it hits an animal the rubber expands outward as it gets squished; Hornady was just trying to develop a pointed bullet for tube magazines but they also invented a bullet with some of the most reliable expansion on the market. They claim that you'll get a complete mushroom at 300 yards on a deer.

Never measured a group so take my experience
for what it is but if you haven't tried your bench
test with all possible brands/loads you should.
My '94 likes the 150gr Win PP's best hands down.
If your rifle is as finicky as mine, it could make a big difference.

That said, I picked up a box of the new Win 150r PHP (Protected Hollow Point).
Plan on checking it out next time I go to a range but won't hunt with it until
it proves itself worthy of the whims of my rifle.
Anybody else tried it yet?

My 94 gets about 1 1/2" at 50 yds with a peep sight using whatever 150 grain bullet I shove in the pipe. I dont consider it a long range gun at all. The Marlins however seem to be more accurate. I would'nt hesitate to put a decent 2x7 or fixed 4 scope on that gun and stretch it out.
