Thanks for the feed back and I see that most prefer the 7mm. Moose is a one time deal (unless I get another chance) and I didn' t think about that... I am avid with deer and recoil does not bother me... I am more concerned about the accuracy and down range power. I know Antelope are alot smaller than moose so a 200-300yrd shot will pack the power from both but I do want to enjoy it with other hunts also. (deer mostly) Guess I' ll hit the balistics charts one more time... go back and see which one says... take me home.. the most.

I agree with the above gents who said the 7 is a lot easier on the shoulder, yet will get the job done.
If you don' t do a lot of off-season shooting, it won' t matter much, but if you like to keep your shooting skills sharp year-round, buy the 7.
If I didn' t already have a 7 Rem Mag, I' d buy a 7 WSM in a heartbeat.

You may even want to consider a .270 WSM.

For moose and elk I would not go smaller than 7mm.Smaller calibers can do the job but they don' t have much power to spare and are better suited to deer sized game.

What other rifles do you own? I amazed how so many folks are game to essentially built a rack of roughly equivalent mid-bore rifles. For example if you already have a .270, then go for the 300WinMag. If you have no high powers the go for the 7mmMag. It pays to look at the big picture. It only takes three rifles to rule NA from everything from varmits to big and mean, yet most folks with three, or four, or five rifles don' t cover the range.

i don' t own either but i would pick the 7mm rem mag. only because i don' t reload and i find more selections of grains and bullets selections would help me out better.

I own both and I would pick the.300, We can argue ballistics all day long, but the older I get and the more deer I shoot, and see others shoot has convinced me that there is just something about that .308 caliber bullet as compared to the smaller calibers. Now, 10 years ago I would have never made the statement that I just made. Oh well that' s just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions..............

I was in the same situation not to long ago, wanted a new rifle with mulitple capabilities. Since I Bow, ML and Rifle hunt for game I wanted a gun that would become my all arounder but wouldn' t be called on for Larger game yearly (ie: Moose or Elk), however it would most likely see yearly deer action. Coupled with my poor shooting shoulder and my personal requirement to head to the range and keep in good shooting form, I settled on a the 7 Rem Mag. The recoil is noticably less which poses no problem for me to sit down and plink paper.

But it really is a coin toss, both are equally up to the task. If you really want or desire a 300 Win Mag, then buy it. The only displeasure you' ll have is not buying what you truly want!
