Ruger MK II, the design has been around forever, there are alot of aftermarket upgrades for them, and they are very accurate. I have a stainless target model that cost me around $260 several years ago. If you want to pay less and would settle for a revolver, you could get a Ruger Single-Six for about $100 less than a MKII- they are a nice looking gun and are a heck of alot of fun to shoot + you can get an interchangable .22 magnum cylinder for them im you wish.

What about the old single-six , I had one with a 6 1/ 2 barrel ,i got many varmints, and others including squirrels , plus it comes with an extra cylinder for .22 mag. I wish i never got rid of mine. Had a mrk 1 and it was a good gun too.

The ruger 22/45 is a great gun. it is a little cheaper than the mkII. i have a p4 which is a 4' bull barrel pistol. it is a tough little tote around pistol. and you won' t have much in it.

The polymer model you' re referring to wouldn' t happen to be the 22/45 would it? That' s NOT the MK II, they' re pretty similar in the workings, but just based on the little I' ve shot the 22/45 I' m telling you they don' t shoot the same. I didn' t really like them, just because they are too big in the grip for a simple .22lr. If I had a p-series still, and didn' t want to shoot it for some reason, then maybe, but not just to get a .22lr pistol.

RE: Need Recommendation on 22 Pistol
The 22/45 is a pistol made mainly to fill a niche with target shooters. Bullseye shooters often shoot a 1911 and a .22 in competition and the biggest complaint is that the MKII has a different grip angle than the 1911. High Standard .22' s are often used because they have the same grip angle, and the 22/45 is made with the same grip angle also.
