Walmart might still have NIB 700 ADL's in their distribution system. When Walmart orders a product like the ADL, they don't order a few to put on some shelves and then reorder as necessary to meet demand. To get the best volume discount, Walmart probably ordered 100,000+ units from Remington in only the most popular cartridges (243 Win, 270 Win, .30-06 etc...). When they didn't all sell before Remington discontinued the ADL and brought out the SPS in its place, they still have maybe thousands of them sitting in their many DC's waiting to be purchased, hence the good price. The difference between the ADL and the SPS is that the ADL has a blind magazine and the SPS has a hinged floorplate. I think that the newer SPS' will have the X-Mark trigger too, where the ADL will certainly have the old style trigger. $447 is a good price for the 700 ADL, so if they have one chambered in a round you want and you don't mind the blind magazine, then it'd be a good gun for you.

Is the one he's referring to the stainless version? The standard SPS is matte blue, and there is the SPS Stainless. Maybe I missed something...

If that price is for the SPS Stainless, get that one.

Have not seen a new ADL in a WalMart in a while now. Didn't the ADL's have 22" barrels with iron sights?

I talked a dealer into matching Wal-Mart's price on the 700 SPS. Last year I had the trigger lightened for $35 and I am really enjoying it.

I wonder if your dealer was more the exception than the rule. I know at least two of my local dealers would laugh if you asked them to match a Walmart price. I understand where they are coming from, but they have to understand where I'd be coming from, too. My duty isn't to make sure they stay in business and make a comfortable living. I don't buy into the "support the little guy no matter how bad he's ripping you off" mentality. If I can save a substancial amount of money and get what I want at a comparable value somewhere else, sorry about his luck.

I just bought a new Rem 700 LSS online. The gun lists for $972 (MSRP), and I seriously doubt I'd be able to get one ordered for me for less than $850 locally (plus sales tax). I paid $759 plus $20 shipping and $30 for the dealer transfer with no sales tax. I'm going to save almost $100 buying online. If that forces my local dealer to cancel his family trip to Disneyland this year, well, it sucks to be him.

I have both and prefer the adl. I like the blind mag in the long actions... in the short actions I prefer the drop away floorplate. Remmy short action blind mags are a pain to load with a scope and low rings. In long action though its not an issue to me.
