remington 700 sps
hey guys which gun would be the better choice between the savage model 11 and the remington 700 sps what in wondering would the remi have all the same features as the savage like free floating barrel and i really dont like the accutrigger so if thats the only difference ill probly like the remi thanx. and i dont think theres much difference in price is there

RE: remington 700 sps
I have both and prefer the Remington. Just be aware you'll need to do a trigger job on the Remington to get it to shoot as good as the Savage.
|
RE: remington 700 sps
im curious why does the remi need a trigger job to shoot as good as the savage
|
RE: remington 700 sps
the remington trigger is kinda heavy but when lightened up the remmy is good i would go for the remington

RE: remington 700 sps
I have owned several SPS's. Every single one I have owned had a crappy trigger. Not just SPS's but every single Rem 700 I have owned needed a trigger job. I'm not knocking the Remington 700.Theyare my favorite rifles and the triggers can be cleaned up very crisp and light.I have a Rem 700 300 ultra mag, .270, and .243. The accu trigger can be set to 3lbs via the instructions with the rifle but the over all feel and look of the rifle does not compare to the Remington. JMO

RE: remington 700 sps
All of my 700 triggers have been lightened, but none needed any other work.

RE: remington 700 sps
I own an SPS Stainless in .270win. Its a shooter right out of the box. I love this rifle. The above posts are right the overall feel of a Remington rifle is something.
The stock is not the greatest by any means, but i guess a quick $250 or $300 and you could have a great stock on it. I think i looked at a hogue stock for my 700 and it was like 150 or something like that at the time. I know cabelas sells Bell and Carlson stocks for like $250 The trigger is a little stiff from the factory. Im going to have that worked this year.I still am able to shoot 1-1.5" MOA with factory hornady rounds. Every gun I pick up i compare to my 700 and even with $750-1000 price tags on alot of these rifles id still rather be shooting my 700. Its a great gun built on a solid proven action that every gun smith knows. The SPS is a perfect hunting rifle. Accurate, Light, not too fancy, can bump it off a tree or use it in the rain or snow and not have to worry about it all too much. That is an ideal hunting rifle in my opinion. |
RE: remington 700 sps
I had a Savage model 16but could never could warm up to the accu-trigger, even though the rifle was accurate. I much prefer the feel of the Remington 700....gunsmith charged me $25 to lighten the trigger on my 700 CDL.

RE: remington 700 sps
Walmart might still have NIB 700 ADL's in their distribution system. When Walmart orders a product like the ADL, they don't order a few to put on some shelves and then reorder as necessary to meet demand. To get the best volume discount, Walmart probably ordered 100,000+ units from Remington in only the most popular cartridges (243 Win, 270 Win, .30-06 etc...). When they didn't all sell before Remington discontinued the ADL and brought out the SPS in its place, they still have maybe thousands of them sitting in their many DC's waiting to be purchased, hence the good price. The difference between the ADL and the SPS is that the ADL has a blind magazine and the SPS has a hinged floorplate. I think that the newer SPS' will have the X-Mark trigger too, where the ADL will certainly have the old style trigger. $447 is a good price for the 700 ADL, so if they have one chambered in a round you want and you don't mind the blind magazine, then it'd be a good gun for you.

Is the one he's referring to the stainless version? The standard SPS is matte blue, and there is the SPS Stainless. Maybe I missed something...
![]() If that price is for the SPS Stainless, get that one. Mike |
RE: remington 700 sps
sorry i guess i should have said that both guns are blued barrel and synthetic stocks thanx for the help
|
RE: remington 700 sps
I bought a Rem 700 in Walmart in the end of Dec. It says on the box 700ADL SPS.Like someone mentioned eairlier Rem. makes production runs for high vol. buyers. My gun also has the X-Mark trigger.

RE: remington 700 sps
Have not seen a new ADL in a WalMart in a while now. Didn't the ADL's have 22" barrels with iron sights?
|
RE: remington 700 sps
I talked a dealer into matching Wal-Mart's price on the 700 SPS. Last year I had the trigger lightened for $35 and I am really enjoying it.

ORIGINAL: RenaissanceBiker I talked a dealer into matching Wal-Mart's price on the 700 SPS. Last year I had the trigger lightened for $35 and I am really enjoying it. I just bought a new Rem 700 LSS online. The gun lists for $972 (MSRP), and I seriously doubt I'd be able to get one ordered for me for less than $850 locally (plus sales tax). I paid $759 plus $20 shipping and $30 for the dealer transfer with no sales tax. I'm going to save almost $100 buying online. If that forces my local dealer to cancel his family trip to Disneyland this year, well, it sucks to be him. Mike |
RE: remington 700 sps
I have both and prefer the adl. I like the blind mag in the long actions... in the short actions I prefer the drop away floorplate. Remmy short action blind mags are a pain to load with a scope and low rings. In long action though its not an issue to me.

RE: remington 700 sps
Mine has no iron sights & a 24" barrel. If you go on the Rem. website they don't even list ADL's.I thought that Rem. discontinued ADL's. Like I said eairler it has to a production run for hi volume buyers.

RE: remington 700 sps
When the sps first came out I bought a sps blue in 22/250 for $419 + tax. When I first got it it wouldn't chamber even a factory shell, sent it back now it loads and shoots fine.Right after that they took the sps blue in 22/250 off the list on their web site.Just checked it is not listed now but is in the sps SS.
Also bought a sps SS in 270 win,for $469 + tax. They sure have went up on them. They are very accurate, both will shoot one hole groups at times.I put a bell and carlson medalist stock on the 270.Looks great too. |
RE: remington 700 sps
I'd also go with the Remington 700 SPS. I own one in .30-06 and like it a lot.
|
RE: remington 700 sps
Lots of votes for the remy, i however would say Savage. I have a savage rifle that was damn near perfect right out of the box. Most accurate rifle i have and i love the accutrigger. Its a solid performer. My family has serveral remy's and they are not that bad but i could never justify the cost difference for a remy when everyone of them i shot either needed a trigger rework or wasn't nearly as accurate as my savage.
|
RE: remington 700 sps
well i shot a accutrigger savage and personally didint care for it and the remi i found is a little chaeper than a savage model 11 so i think im gonna go for the remi

RE: remington 700 sps
I paid like $549 from Sportsmans Warehouse for my SPS Stainless. My favorite gun I own...
Although like others have said buying online and paying for shipping and dealer transfer fees is alot more useful seeing as how tax at 6 or 7% ads an additional 30 or 40 bucks onto a gun as is. If you can save on the price, then the tax, its no biggy to pay the shipping and processing fee and walk away with a smile on your face. |
RE: remington 700 sps
I bought the SPS Stainless in .300WSM. It shoots great out of the box (1.5" - 2"groups @ 200 yrds). I will eventually have the trigger adjusted tighten the group. Not really a need when hunting big game.

RE: remington 700 sps
I own 2 Rem 700's.One is a SPS in 22-250 and that thing shoots .5in groups at 100yds.And I own just a plain jane 700 in 30-06,that is my deer cannon, never have shot a group with it,but I can tell you I have never missed with it! "Knock on wood"
