The .270 is a good choice, but I' m waiting for the 7mm-08 which is supposed to be out July or August.

This is an unofficial date guys/gals; I called a local gunshop and that was their speculation

For factory .270 ammo for deer, I' d choose whatever 130gr loading shot best from my rifle.

Quilly, the 35 Rem just isn' t a very popular cartridge outside of a few pockets like the northeast and some swaps and thickets in the south. On the NEF/H&R forums I never even hear anyone talking about the 35 Rem. They are talking about the 35 Whelen though so maybe soon we will see one. It only took a couple of years for them to listen to the masses screaming for a 7mm-08 Rem.

I got plenty of time so I think I will wait and see if the 7mm-08 comes out. If not, it will be the 25-06 or 270.. I' f like the 25-06 but the barrel is for the ultra rifle. It is $16 more and longer too I think. If it fits my gun that would be ok. Not much kick and with 120s very deadly on deer.

i' de go with the .25-06 , but , make sure it will fit as you mentioned that it might ( sounding unsure ) , the .25-06 will take varmints and deer , with factory loads available for those game animals , does the .25-06 barrel your looking at in regular barrel wieght or heavy barrel wieght ????

Quilly, go to Marlin' s website. They make them now. They' re about the best thing going for accuracy and value. For well under $200, you can get a new gun, and add barrells for under $100.

BTW, the 25-06 barrel will fit on any rifle frame except the rimfire frames. Rifle frames can also be fitted with shotgun barrels with the exception of the 10 gauge barrel. Just make sure you call H&R before you send your frame to make sure the barrel you want is available. 1-978-630-8220.
