Congrats to you and the Mrs. Clearanceman. What ever the baby is I hope it' s healthy. 7mm-08 would make a nice " ladies" gun too (just incase it' s a girl).

Thanks! Since we already have two boys, a girl would be nice. But another boy would be easier since he can room with one of his brothers and we have tons of boy stuff.

Clearanceman,
Nice to get your moneys worth isn' t it.
I have the same exact rifle. I found the trigger to be fine out of the box as well.
I shoot the 45gr Winchester bulk pack ammo, it is $10.00 for 40 rounds.
They shoot under 1" in my rifle so never had to try any other loads.
Make sure you give us a range report on your new rifle. Have fun with it.

We have a Sportsmans Warehouse here in Boise which is where I found the Winchester bulk pack ammo.
You can probably get it at any of your major hunting and fishing stores.
Maybe even Wallmart, can' t say for sure if they have it.

Looks like cabelas has 250 rounds of FMJ for $55 plus shipping also. The winchester looks good. Do they have FMJ? I am using this on turkeys and I am afraid that if I use soft points the turkey will explode!

I have shot coyotes with FMJ and they work but the dog usually runs a little bit.
Watch your background behind your target, the FMJ can ricochet quite a distance, if there are houses around I would not use them.
Try the 55gr pointed soft points, I don' t think they are as explosive as the varmint style bullets. Look for bullets with more controlled expansion, I don' t know if the NEF will fire the 55-60gr bullets well. I have only shot the 45gr bullets.

Clearanceman...I' ve shot a few turkeys in the fall with a rifle in WV. It' s tougher than you might think. They rarely drop when hit with a rifle...UNLESS you break their legs. The place to shoot them as far as I' m concerned is right where the legs join the body. This puts them down for good.
I' d advise you to stay away from the body of a turkey. You' ll either destroy the breast meat, or you' ll have a wounded gliding bird on your hands. Either one isn' t any fun.
If you hit ' em where the legs join the body, a simple soft-nose bullet will do fine.
Good luck!
