I have shot coyotes with FMJ and they work but the dog usually runs a little bit.
Watch your background behind your target, the FMJ can ricochet quite a distance, if there are houses around I would not use them.

Try the 55gr pointed soft points, I don' t think they are as explosive as the varmint style bullets. Look for bullets with more controlled expansion, I don' t know if the NEF will fire the 55-60gr bullets well. I have only shot the 45gr bullets.
