Depends what kind of money you' re willing to spend.I carry a Glock M-27 most of the time. The Sig -Sauer model P-245 is another nice one.In the lower end price range the Ruger SP101 or Taurus wheelguns.

Ruger is right, how much can you spend? I just bought a sp101 S.S. Ruger 357 with a 3" barrel for $349.00 new. I use this concealed usually under my left arm since I shoot a gun right handed. I am happy as can be with this little gun as it is really light weight. Most of my shots will be self-defense at close range weather bear or man but the gun is only as accurate as the person shooting it but than again you have to be realistic because of such a short barrel. I like a Ruger because they always hold there value and actually can sell them more than what you bought it for.( Good line to tell the wife) Bobby

Find you a 3 inch 357 light wt. revolver. carry 158 gr lead Hollow points +P ammo in it. If you do choose an Auto, make sure you can run at least 500 rounds through it firing from all positions without a malfunction before you bet your life on it.

I have Two that I carry and are good for concealment The first on is a S/W 3913 in the 9mm. it is thinner than the other one. The second one is the Glock Mod 26 also in the 9mm class they both shoot very well at 30 to 40 ft.. The Glock is a little thicker in the handle but then it holds 10 rounds compared to 8 in the Smith. I do like the safteys on the Smith better,I carry one in the tube with it so all I have to do is flip the decock up and it is ready to go. The Glock I need to chamber a round after pulling it which takes time. They all have there little perks so look and test them out first then make your dic. good luck and be SAFE!!!!!!

Round Ball why are you chambering a round after you pull it? The Glock is very safe to carry with a chambered round.You have that safety on the trigger that must be depressed before the trigger can move rearward, then you have a couple inside the pistol.Mine is always carried with a chambered round ready to Rock-n-Roll.If you feel safer carrying it with a empty chamber that' s fine , but there really no need to do so.

I' m with Ruger 110%! (unless of course it' s a personel decison) there is no need to keep the Glock chamber empty. I carry mine with one in the chamber 100% of the time.

There is no problem carrying a Glock with one in the pipe. However, carrying a loded Glock requires a GOOD holster. A cheap Uncle Mikes Canvas holster is not a good idea. Since the Glock' s safety mechanism is a the " Safe Action" trigger it is recommended to only carry them in a Leather holster or a Kydex (plastic) holster. Canvas holsters are very flimsy and it is possible to have an AD that way.

Another concern Glockers need to remember is not to draw the gun and put the finger on the trigger while drawing. I cringe at how many people pull their pistol and immediately put their finger on the trigger during the same motion of drawing the gun. This is a simple invitation to having an accident with a Glock (or any other pistol for that matter).

I agree GT, personally I feel that everyone should have to go through some form of formal training before purchasing a pistol. When you see the way some people handle a pistol it really amazes me that there aren' t more AD' s reported. I have personally seen Marine range officers throw people off the range for throwing the bullets down range. One guy was from where? you guessed it NYC. Now before anyone says anything, it' s just my opinion of what safe and responsible gun ownership is about. It' s the other fools that make it bad for the rest of us. Right now we need all the help we can get, especially here in the PRNJ. Where it' s a crime to defend yourself and property.

I saw a bad accident with a glock carried with one in the chamber. I won,t do it any more. A cop shot himself in the but and upper leg drawing a loaded glock from his holster in a combat match. I had five glocks and have since slod them all. I no longer will own a hangun without a visable hammer.
