Remington 700, chambered for .243 Win. Excellent choice for a first rifle, and plenty of punch for your intended prey.

You want a classic?? Buy one of the new Winchester Model 70's in .308 Win. or .30/'06. Or, if money is no object. buy a pre-64 Winchester Model 70 in either of those two calibers, or in .270.

The Model 70 of the pre-64 design is still known in America as the Rifleman's Rifle. It will always be so.

I do not know what your budget is but if you can go for it get a Cooper To me they are the best, And you can ask anyone on here, and if they no their guns they will tell you there is not much better than a Copper you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the help guys. I went and looked at a few different guns today. Im looking at the 30-06 caliber. In the price range between $500-$700. The guy at the shop really pushed the Remington 700 synthetic stock, but I kinda want a wooden stock. The 700 wooden is a bit more expensive, and does not have a floated barrel. He really shut me down on the Browning, but I kinda like the A-bolt. I am now being swayed towards the CZ 550. Gonna go hold some more tomorrow. Let me know if yall have any more ideas. This is probably the hardest thing that I have ever done.

I do not know why he shut you down on the Browning they are great guns it must be where they are made in Japan some people don’t like that.
And for the Remington I have not found one dealer that does not push the Remington if that is there main rifle they sale.
And as for the CZ 550 not bad but I would take a look at a Tikka to me it is just better than the CZ.
