All you lever action fans out there. Marlin and Hornady have supposedly released a 338 Marlin Express based on a 376 Steyr case necked down. It's supposed to push a 200 gr bullet about 2200 fps I think with trajectory similar to a 180 gr 30-06 load. Might be something for the lever action fans to look into

It would have to do a lot better than 2200 fps to even come close to matching trajectory of a 30-06 with 180 gr bullet. Also I would think that unless the case is shortened it would be too long to fit thru a conventional marlin lever action. It does sound like a really cool idea tho.

Yeah, they introduced that on TVamonth or soago. It is a shortened, rimmedversion of the 376 Steyr. A 200 grain bullet is suppose to be somewhere between 2500 and 2600 fps out of a, I think, 24" barrel of the XLR rifles.

The 356win is all that is needed from 336, its current down fall is a little to much case head pressure. So what about the 300savage necked up to 358.
What can't you do with a 200gr corelokt RN traveling at an authentic 2400fps or a speer 220gr at 2350fps. Moose, elk, bear, and deer real dead real fast and still without excesse recoil in the light 336. This and the 250savage based 308 express, and the real 250savage would be a great trio.
I think marlins customer want cartridges that fit a real need not just ones who's number may look better.
