RE: Winchester model 70
I had a model 70 black shadow. I didn' t like the bolt, it was sloppy. I didn' t like the stock because it was too long and the rifle wasn' t balanced at all. Mine didn' t have iron sights either. The trigger had alot of creep and it was heavy at about 5 pounds. And the synthetic stock looked bad and felt worse.
Other than that... not all model 70' s have that bolt, the stock can be modified and so can the trigger, the balance can be made better through that and you can get them in wooden stocks and with iron sights. That makes it a great rifle. I didn' t like the one I had but if I had spent a few more bucks on it I' d probably still have it.
Even with the bad one I had it was darn accurate. I' m sure if mine had a better feel and trigger I could of stacked shots on top of each other.

I find the Black Shadow to be a very good gun, especially for the money paid!
I' d probably compare it to a Remington ADL, and I think it is a better gun than the ADL. Like ALL new guns the trigger leaves much to be desired. Mine came from the factory with an 8+ pound trigger. I had mine turned down to 3 1/4 pounds and now I can get groups around 1 inch. I would say that the Black Shadow is as good a gun that you can get for the money

Been shootin' a Mod 70 ftwt 30/06 for years and love it. Didn' t know there could be anything NOT to love about it: good groups, light weight, great balance, workable trigger, and its a darn good lookin' firearm!
