Why do chicken wings cost more than boneless chicken breast??
Simple. Because they can get it. It has nothing to do with cost. It has everything to do with how much the mfrs. think you will put up with!! Tom.

Is the .17 bigger or smaller than that .22? Sorry. I don't know what .22 even means. I was in the store and the .17 cost a lot more. What is it used for? Why is it more? Thanks.

Use to be 17's costed more because they were harder to make... I doubt that's true today... Also, what 17 and what 22 are we talking about? Rimfire? Centerfire??
If the 17 is jacketed and the 22 isn't... then the 17 is harder to make, and cost more to make... Also, quantity does lower the cost too...
There area LOT ofvariables here, that's hard to make much sense of,to a new shooter...
BTW, most folks buy 17's just becausethe 17'sare"different", as they really don't do anything better than the 22 they are similar in power to.

I dont think the .17 are actually .177 i think they are actually smaller than that b/c pellet guns are .177 and you can't use their cleaning kits in a .17 rifle. I know my .17HMR is much more accurate than my .22lr and has a further reach. I purchased it for varmints and also for practice as its cheaper to practice with than my larger rifles.

Yes, you are correct that the .17HMR should be compared to teh .22 Magnum, I did intend to put that in, but got distracted. The .17HMR has the "cool" factor also, only kidding. I never shot the .22 Magnum so I can't compare the personal experiences, but I do love how the .17HMR is like an overpowered BB gun.

Like they said supply/demand effect on cost.Alot of expense is also in the "fad" factor.Everyone gets caught up in it sometimes, don't think there is a article wrote on how much deader a 17 makes critters than a 22! It runs along the same lines as the WSM and WSSM cartriges...the not something the average person needs to shoot and run out of in the boonies and think you can find anywhere...say like .22's or 270's or 30-06's,etc etc.I'll stick with .22's and practice limiting my shots verses paying more just to stretch my wallet and a little distance.
