It dont shoot for nothing, but just wondering what caliber it is equal too?? What caliber could I possibly have it turned into if I ever get the urge????

Russian round, been around a long time. I think the Russian military still uses it for their Dragunov sniper rifles. Like DoubleA said, a lot of Mosin Nagants are floating around - probably the most common rifle you'll see that is chambered for this round. Similar to the .30-06, though a little less powerful. Nothing too special about it IMO...

The 7.62x54r is a .310 diameterbullet, though a .308 diameter bullet can be loaded in the 7.62x54r case, it suffers in the long range accuracy thatit is capable of shooting. Many who reload use the .311 bullet for the .303 British with good results by dropping the powder charge slightly to make up for the slight oversize, when useing 150 gr or less bullets, the 7.62x54r rivals the ballistics of the 30-06. I beleive I have seen Sierra orHornady selling a .310 diameter bullet in the 123gr range that would work well in that rifle also, reload data is becomeing easier to find, choice of brass is limited, I beleive Norma and Lapua are the only makers at this time.

IMHO, using Norma or Lapua brass in a Russian Mosin nagant is like putting a spoiler on a Ford Pinto.
Well said, I just didnt want to say it!, very good metaphor though, never really thought of a spoiler on a Pinto!

Thx guys... but does anyone know what caliber it can be re-barreled into? I am very unfamiliar with all of this stuff, but just curious for the future!
