I've tested a bunch of rifles both with boss and without and it works. It is mainly for the person that don't reload as it adjusts vibration harmonics similar to working up a load when handloading-the bullet exiting bore at a certain spot in vibration cycle. I would reccomend it for top notch accuracy but be sure and use cr module.

You can get a rifle to shoot nice little groups with a boss but most Abolts shoot nice little groups anyway. I find it is more hassle and a gadget then something worthwhile. On top of that it is ugly as are all muzzlebrakes.

I took a BRN A-bolt .338w/BOSS to CO in 1994 and when I returned, I sold it!

I guess a follow-up question is in order. Do you reload? If so, you don't need a BOSS system.

yes i do. although i have owned another .270 for a long time i've never bought the dies and such for the .270. this rifle doesn't get used much. plus i have a hard time finding the time to handload nowadays.

thanks for the replies. yesterday i bought the LHA-bolt SS .270 "without" the boss. for having a synthetic stock, this is a real nice rifle. i'm going to see how well it shoots factory loads. if i'm not satisfied then i'll get the loading dies and such. and try to find the time to develope a load.

Having owned one BOSS equipped rifle,I will never own another. The accuracy was no better with the BOSS than with a proper handload, the velocity was lower due to the shorter actual barrel on the BOSS equipped rifles, and the BOSS kept coming loose and changing the point of impact.

If you need the recoil reduction then go for it. If not I would not bother. They make a big difference in recoil but less in accuracy.
