Both of these companies manufacture break action, single shot, centerfire rifles. I notice that Rossi rifles retail at a slightly lower price than H&R. Does anyone know if there is a reason for this? If anyone has insight on these firearms, I' d love to hear it. I' m trying to find a deer rifle that I can afford on a college budget, and these single shot rifles seem like a possibility.

Well if you pick them both up and look at them you will see why the Rossi is cheaper. The H&R/NEF is just a better made firearm. Not to say that the Rossi is bad because I haven' t shot one, but I own an H&R and it is a very good value for the price. Also you can get extra barrels in different chamberings for the H&R/NEF and I don' t think you can do that with the Rossi. I think the H&R/NEF is worth a few more dollars.

Agree with the previous posts.
I hunt coyotes with a NEF in .223 very accurate, hasn' t failed me yet.
I would not hesitate to take one big game hunting.
Very simple action and trigger, can' t see how it would fail.
