Max effective range with rifled slugs vs. ...
Assuming that I find slugs and/or sabots that shoot accurately in my shotgun, how far out do you think is a good cutoff point for knock-down power and tissue damage.
Just because I can get them to group good at specific range doesn't mean they will kill cleanly all the way out there.
Obviously, this will vary for rifled slugs from a smoothbore vs. sabots from a rifled barel. I'm interested in the difference between the two.
What d'ya think?

OK, OK, I know you're all REAL busy, but...
Maybe you havn't tried both types of slugs.
How about telling me what your farthest shot was with either type of slug where you felt that it hit with adequate power.

Personally, it would depend on which barrel type I had on. If I had a smoothbore barrel, I'd want to be Brenneke slugs, and I wouldn't want to be shooting much over 50 yards. Rifled choke; I'd be shooting Lightfield Hybred slugs, and 50-75 yards would be my limit; with a fully rifled barrel, I'd be looking for one of the slugs in the 1900-fps range, such as the Winchester Supreme, Hornady XTP, or Remington Core-Lokt Ultra. I'd be using 100 yards as a top limit; more if I had a scope, and I practiced a lot.

Thanks guys.
Every little bit helps.
I have to admit that at this point I'm pretty uninformed when it comes to shotgunning. Thanks again.

I use a rifled 24" barrel and the Fed. Barnes expanders. This combo will shoot 2.5" groups at 120 yards. And I've killed with it out to 140 so far. Have killed two others at lesser ranges. I'd shoot to 160 with complete confidence. I havn't tried to practice enough yet at ranges beyond that.
