Remington 798 vs 700?

Pretty much sums it up

is the 798 as accurate as a 700? if not, is it accurate enough to take shots at moderate distances, ie 200-300 yards?

If the actions are made to minimum tolerance and the barrels are exacatly equal(an impossibility) then there will be very little if any difference in accuracy at normal hunting ranges between the 2 action types. I am not sure how consistent the "New" Mark X actions are compared to the old CD actions but I know of old CD actions shooting very very tight groups when properly bedded and the trigger tuned, the same holds true for most mauser actions. The new 798's at least the ones I have seen have a poor bedding job most with the barrel touching the stock on one side ...That can be easily fixed by most gun tinkerers and certainly any gunsmith worth his salt. I can tell you one thing the Mauser action is in another class when it comes to ruggedness. Whether it is needed or not would depend on each hunters situation and comfort level.

I hadn't read much about them or really given them much thought until recently, and when i started to read about them i began to wonder what the advantages and disadvantages were. thank you for the insightful replies, I appreciate them all.
