Default Remington 870 Synthetic Express

Would like to know who owns this gun and
how well has it performed for you. Also how
well does this finish hold up to rust.Does this
model do well with feeding shells and can you
also buy extra chokes if needed.I have owned
quite a few 870 Wingmasters and they were
higher end guns just not sure about the Express
models and hoped someone who has one could
share some information. Thanks so much! Mike

I picked up a Rem 870 express magnum in synthetic about 2 1/2 years ago. I got the combo package that comes with a 28" smooth barrel, and a 23" rifled slug barrel with cantilever scope mount.

First season I mounted a Nikon 2-7x 32mm scope on the slug barrel and ended up getting 2 deer while tree standing hunting in northern Minnesoata in sub zero degree weather. Gun performed flawless.

Next summer I shot trap with it for one season. Worked great.

This summer I mounted a youth stock on it and my son is using it for trap.

No complaints so far, as the shotgun has been working our great. The matt finish is still holding up well even after heavy use.

Attached is a photo of it next to the 200 pound doe I shot right through the heart at 110 yards using Hornady SST's

I bought a 870 Express combo about 24 years ago. The wood was cheap and I found a crack the length of the forearm after it dried out from a wet deer hunting season. I got a Remington synthetic replacement set from Cabelas and had no more problems. I've had mine in some nasty invironments and the "parkerized" finish has had no problems. Wipe it down with a oil rag after cleaning and it looks brand new.

Don't have the synthetic, but have 3 870 Expresses, 2 in 20 gage for my son and one in 12ga for me. Mine is set up as a deer gun and I put a Boyd's thumbhole stock on it. One of my son's is set up the same way, the other is his bird gun. All of them work smoothly and flawlessly and have never failed to perform. One of the guys I hunt with has a synthetic, and he loves it. The key thing is that they all have the same 870 action. Pick a stock that you like. I personally am a fan of the thumbhole for deer. The finish holds up just fine, like any other gun, after a hunt, clean and oil it, store it properly. The 870 comes completely apart pretty easily. The one area that some people miss is the area between the forearm and the barrel.

Thanks to all who responded to me with information on
the Remington 870.Sounds to me that it holds up well
as long as taken properly care of.I will definitely consider
this gun as the price is reasonable.I would love to get a
870 wingmaster but the price is much to high on these guns
now.Wish now I had keep some of my older wingmasters
but who would have guessed the prices would have gone up
so much! Thanks alot to everyone! Mike
