Default Bullet for 243 and 25/06

I'm new here so please excuse me if this is old stuff I'm asking! I have a 243 and a 25/06 that I deer hunt with. I want to know what bullet and weight that you have had the best results withat harvesting deer. Thanks for any replies. Also how many deer have you harvested with this combo?

Picking up a .243 mainly for antelope....and possibly the new mule deer rifle, but mainly antelope. On an antelope with some friends and their friends/fathers, quite a few guys were using 95gr noslers from their .243 and were blowing right through them. Same case with my .270 130gr soft points, so I plan to use more of a soft style 90-100gr soft.

No experience with the .25-06, believe the 115 or 117gr loads tend to be the most popular, cousin used his .25-06 on muley's in wyoming and the deer dropped so fast when he came back on target it was as if it disappeared, I remember him saying that 120gr was the max load.....though not sure he was using 120, or 115, 117, I think with any of those you'll be pretty safe.

In my 243 I use Hornady Custom 100gr..... I use the Hornady customs in all my rifles except for the 25-06....I just got a 25-06 a about three months ago and have been trying different bullets and I have narrowed it down to two different bullets, the federal premium 117gr and the winchester cxp1 95gr. The only bullet that I have shot anything with is the 95gcxp1's and they did great on a hog here a few weeks ago at around 100yds. The reason that I narrowed it down to these two bullets is that they held the tightest 3 shotgroups...However every gun is different and likes a little different loads. I would be running the Hornady customs in the 25-06 but I can't find them locally.....

25/06...Welcome to the forum!!!!

I've killed about85 with the 100gr CoreLokt
About35 with the Federal Premium 85gr HPBT Sierra GameKing
About a dozen with the Federal Premium 100gr Nosler Partition
Another20 with the Federal Premium 100gr SPBT Sierra GameKing
5-6 with the Winchester Supreme 100gr PowerPoints
5-6 with the Federal Classic 100gr HotCore
5-6 with the Hornady Custom 100gr InterLok
3-4 with the Nitrex 100gr Grand Slam
5-6with the Remington 100g Premier SPBT

If your shots run within 200 yards, all of the above work just fine...

If they usuallycome inside 100 yards and you want a consistant exit, go with the 100gr CoreLokt, 100gr Hornady Custom and the 100gr Federal Premium Nosler Partition...

If you anticipate most shots past 100 to 300 yards, I like the Federal Premium 85gr HPBT Sierra GameKing or the Federal Premium 100gr SPBT Sierra GameKing...

After trying all the above for a few years, I use the CoreLokt and the 85gr HPBT formost ofmy hunting...The 85gr hits about 2 1/2 to 3 inches high at 100 and is about 2-3 inches low at 300...The CoreLokt is 2 inches high at 100 and about 3 inches low at 250...

Look into the Barnes TSX line of bullets. There are 3 types offered in various calibers. In the 243 and 25-06 you might be limited to the TSX but it is an awesome bullet. Very accurate in most guns and they really expend alot of energy into their target.

I have used most of the 85 to 100 grain rounds.. And as mentioned above the 85 BTHP is wicked out of the 243.. In fact I have a shot on a large buck at 246 yards with it.. Dropped after one jump..

I don't harvest, I kill, then I eat.....

The 85 TSX for the 6,and the 100 TSX for the 25, would be my ONLY game plan.....(pun there).

BT/DT.......

That 100 grain Sierra Game King with 52 grains of H4350 in the 25-06 is simply awsome. Very accurate and veryeffective on deer.

How many kills on deer? Enough to know it works!

In my 2506 I have had great experinces with the 117 Federal Premium never a problem. I think the best thing to do is find what bullet shoots the best from your own gun.
