260 rem or 7mm-08 rem ?
Hi guys !
I know this question has been asked a 1000 times but…..which of these 2 calibersis more useful in a light short action rifle for hunting deer and sheep ? What’s your pick ? I reload so factory ammo is not a concern ! |

The popularity of it these days would suggest the 7-08.

The 7mm-08.. I think you have more bullet and ammo options with the 7mm.

I would choose the 7mm-08, but either one should be great with 120-140 gr gameking or sst.

I'd get the 7-08 as well. I've never been a big fan of the 260.

Tough I like the 6.5mm bullets for deer sized game, my personal favorite is the 6.5x55SE, the 7mm-08 rathern than the 6.5mm-08 (260 Rem.) would make a lot of sese as far as bullet selection.

I love the 7mm-08.
Since you hand load you may be able to get 140gr bullet in 260 up to a useful velocity. I think most factory loads are 120gr which I'm notas fond of in a 6.5mm. |

My brother has a Model 7 in 7mm-08 that he bought back in the 80s...One of my hunting partners used it to kill a nice buck one evening and went to get him one the first year the .260 came out...The dealer had a .260 on the shelf and knocked off $150 for it...He killed a few deer with it, bought reloading equipment for it, talked about it's virtues for a couple of years and then quit using it....He showed up at deer camp last year with a .243, never have found out why he ditched the .260...
I'd go with a 7mm-08 a .260 won't do anything a '08 won't do.... |
