My Lefty 700 BDL was recently sent back to the factory to have the trigger looked at and possibly replaced. It should arrive back to me by sometime next week. I tried having it adjusted by my local gunsmith and he had trouble with it and sent it back to Remington. When I called Remington they said that they put a new trigger in it. My question is should I have the new one from the factory adjustedto 3-3.5 poundsor keep it where it is from the factory?I spokewith a gentleman that saidthe warrantyof the firearm is void when the trigger is messed with. Are Remington triggers tough to do work on and adjust to a lower poundage? What's the deal with their triggers? What trigger brands should I lookinto if I was to replace the standard one when I get it back (Timney, Remington X Mark Pro, etc)? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Remington triggers are excellent and can easily be adjusted for creep, overtravel and poundage. No reason to get an aftermarket one.

I agree 100%... I've yet to get a 700 with a trigger that couldn't be adjusted to an excelent hunting trigger, and 3-1/2 pounds is plenty light.

A creep free trigger with no overtravel is a better hunting trigger than one that's just "light".

Most of the Rem triggers I've seen "messed up", were that way from some nitwit who didn't know how to adjust one.

Never good advice to tell anyone/everyone to make a change...

Enjoy the adjustability of it as Remington has put a stop to that with the new x mark junkers...only the poundage is adjustable. Those will be Timney city...

I had my 700's trigger adjusted to 3 1/2 by a Smith. Very nice now.

Unless the trigger on yours came from the factory with something wrong with it, no person who cannot adjust a Remington M7-M700 trigger should be calling himself a gunsmith!! In addition, if THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR TRIGGER, your "gunsmith" should have noticed it right away, and told you about the problem!

I adjusted my first Remington trigger in 1953 (a Model 721), and the last one (a Model 7) about a month ago. And I do NOT claim to be a gunsmith. Actually, the Remington triggers are not hard to adjust. You just must make sure that when working on them, not to set the sear engagement too little, and to leave enough tension on the trigger spring to make certain the gun WILL REMAIN COCKEDwhen you slam the bolt closed vigorously, and that you can put the safetyON, pull the trigger all the way back, release it, push the safety OFF, and have the rifle REMAIN COCKED!! (It is embarrassing as hell when your rifle fires when you push the safety off! And it could be dangerous, if you were the sort of person who does not always ensure that his/her muzzle is pointing in a safe direction at all times....) Each of these two tests should be repeated at least ten times, and work each time before you re-loctite the three adjustment screws to keep the trigger adjusted correctly while it is in use.

I find that the Remington trigger can be adjusted as low as three pounds, and still operate safely. If you try to go much below three pounds, SOME of them get touchy!! NOT ALL, but some!

IF you are in the least mechanically savvy, and can read, you can do it yourself. Once you figure it out and have your trigger set to your satisfaction, you can teach your gunsmith how to do it.

Got my gun back today. The trigger was replaced, I believe, with the older model trigger (not the x mark pro).Thegunsmithwas able to adjust it toaround 3/3.5 as opposed to the last one which had some sort of defect. Can't wait to get out and use it again.

If I were to buy another Remington ever again I would want that X-Mark trigger on it because it is safer then the old Walker design.
