Turkey choke for a MOssberg 500?
I have a Mossberg 500 that i will use this year for turkey. Anyone have a recommendation for a choke to use? I have the regular full choke for my Accu-choke barrel, but was wondering if there are some decently priced options for a tighter pattern for the heavy trukey loads.

Chokes are available all the way doen to .640 for your shotgun. We need to know what size shot you plan to use as bigger shot like #4 needs a bit more open choke than #5-#6 to pattern properly without "blowing" the pattern. as rule of thumb I would suggest the tightest chokes:#6-.640,#5-.650-.655,#4 .665-.675 these are in general only and you MUST still pattern not only for pattern but also point of impact as it becomes much more critical as pattern size shrinks.

I am new to this but have 2 boxes of shells to start with... they are both Remington Premier High Velocity Magnum copper plated buffered turkey loads. I have a box of #4's and a box of #5's and plan on trying them both to check pattern, but I wanted to start with something tighter than my Mossberg issued full choke.
Below is a link to a line of tubes carried by Cabelas ... I was looking at the Carlson's in either Turkey Super Full or Turkey Extra Fullunless anybody here thinks I should stay away from these particular chokes.
Like I said I'm new to this so am just looking for some general direction before I go out and burn up some ammo and targets patterning my Mossberg.

I ordered model 19894 directly from carlson's. It has a .640 bore and it will show to my doorstep for 31.45 including shipping and tax. If it gives me acceptable patterns from at least one ammo this year I'll be happy. We'll see.....

I shoot a Pure Gold out of my 835. They have a 30-day satisfaction guarentee. You'll pattern it, and if its not the best pattern you've ever had out of your gun, or out of what you are testing... they will refund you 100% of the purchase price, no ?s asked. You can't lose.

RE: Turkey choke for a MOssberg 500?
The guy from Carlson called me today to say that my internet order was going to take till May 1st ....b/c of an ordering problem the .640 choke was out of stock till then.
He explained that he thought that the .660 that they DID have in stock would probably be abetter set-up for me anyway ... he went on to say the the .640 was really for card shooters (whatever that means) and the pattern was great for a certain range and then it opened up too much for turkey hunting ... at least that's what he told me.......
Anyway, after talking to a couple of my buddies that know way more than me about this turkey hunting stuff they told me he wasn't leading me wrong....
I went ahead with the switch on the order, same cost but the .660 tube instead.
Moose, thanks for the offer, if the one I ordered doesn't pattern well I may contact you.
Thanks
