RE: 25-06 vs. 25 wssm
Another thing is the WSSM's are to short for most scopes to be mounted correctly on a true super short action. So if they come in just the normal short action there is no benifit of added barrel length for the same OAL gun. The 25-06 is here to stay as with most 06 or 08 case based cartridges.

For 2008 Browning (the only ones chambering the WSSM's besides a couple of AR's) has dropped all WSSM chamberings from their line up. And the new model 70 is not being chambered in any ofhte WSSM's.
This should tell you something.

RE: 25-06 vs. 25 wssm
I am probably going to get flamed for this. But here goes. I have never seen much use in a quarter bore rifle. IMO it is a bit much for varmints, and a bit light for big game.
25-06---There are a lot of cartridges that basically give the same performance as the 25-06, but in a short action. I am not saying a super short action, just a plain short action. IMO a short action rifle by it's nature is more accurate, stronger(leads to accuracy), and lighter. So why carry a long action, in 25 caliber.
25 WSSM-Since I do not like the quarter bore I see no use what so ever for this cartridge. Will it do the job??? YES. Will it do the job better than other cartridges that cost less per box of ammo???NO. So why would you spend extra money for something that does nothing extra??? Sorry, but I do not get it!!!
If I was concerned about recoil, but still wanted something that was fairly flat shooting, and I wanted accuracy, and alightweight rifle, then I would have to go with a 260 Remington, or a 7-08. I personally believe these two cartridges are inherently more accurate than the 25-06. JUST MO. But I believe it to be so.
Personally I like the 30 caliber's for big game. And that is a whole other argument. But if you are considering the 25WSSM because of the compact and lighter rifle, then I would look at the 260 Remington. It would sure cost you a lot less to shoot, and 308 brass should be around for a while-at a good price. Tom.

RE: 25-06 vs. 25 wssm
I prefer the 25-06, butas a reloader I can't get over how efficient the 25WSSM appears to be. With the same bullet and the powder, the 25WSSM will develope equal or higher velocity using 7-10% less powder. I don't know how it does it, but all the charts seem to agree. Can some of you guys enlighten me?

Put your firesuit on buddy I am about to flame you
I have not used My own quarter bore in a quarter of a century on deer always borrowed my buddies custom rifle. Grew to like it so much I bought my own Browning Abolt this year a few months ago. The way this browning shoots and it shoots lights out wished I had bought my own a long time ago. I can't tell much difference between a 25 caliber 120 grain bullet going 3000 and a 27 caliber 130 gr bullet going 3000. All one needs for Bambi is a sharpened stick as EKM so bluntly puts it.
Ok Flame over

Love my 25-06. Easily my favorite deer/antelope combo cartridge. Flies very flat and hits hard. 100gr bulletsfor antelope, 110s-120s on deer, and 75s on coyotes and prairie dogs. Easy to load for IMO. Mine shoots just about anything I put through it with excellent accuracy...seems everyone I know with one loves it and theyseem to averagehigher accuracy than most...
