Default Smith & Wesson SW1911?

I'm thinking about getting a SW1911. More specifically THIS MODEL. How does the SW1911 stack up against other 1911's in the same price range? With the exception of adding nights sight if I decide to use it as a "carry pistol" I'm going to keep it the way it comes out of the box. What do you guys think of the SW1911? Thanks NYH!

I have heard nothing but good reviews on the Smith 1911's, some will complain about the external extractor, but if you get them right they work and it looks like Smith did that. If I was in the market for another 1911 the Smith would be a choice I could go with. But my next 1911 is going to be a high end such as a Wilson or Ed Brown, just something I have always wanted, or may send off a 70 series Colt I have to Wilson or Cylinder and Slide and have it worked over, haven't made my mind up yet.

NYH, A friend of mine got a S&W Scandium 1911. He is very happy with it. I have shot it, but I am not enough of a 1911 expert to compare it to other brands. It felt good to me, but I didn't shoot it any better than my S&W revolvers.

the S&W is the only 1911 I have ever fired (I live about two miles from the factory and shooting center) and it is a great handgun. Real nice trigger, much better then the double action only M&P they recently came out with.

Carried the S&W 1911 on duty and absolutely loved the rig. By far one of, if the the most accurate "outta the box" 1911's I have owned. Smith did their homework on the 1911 and mine "ran like a Singer sewing machine". I bet my life on it so you can be satisfied that it'll suffice just fine for carry duty as well. The most pronounced feature I love on the S&W's is the external extractor. I personally never had an extraction problem and it went bang when it counted!

All I have been hearing is Smith got the external extractor right, Kimber tried it but ended up going back to the internal.

I think the price is way out of line. There are several makes that will do anything the Smith will do for a LOT less money. I just bought the Taurus PT-1911 as have several others. Out of the box performance and reliability is fantastic...at half the price of a Smith and with Lifetime Warranty. What's not to love?
