My dad left a few things that I would have liked to have to other people. But he was my dad and I would never question his motives. Unless you know the motive, then please do not try to figure it out. Just remember that he was your dad and let it go. I have witnessed first hand how little things can fester between family members. My Dad shot one when I was growing up. It was a Remington Mohawk 600. I absolultly loved that gun.. Well when he passed away last year, I realized that he had given that gun to his ex stepson.. I still can't get over that..

I've owned several Model 600 Mohawks in everything but a 6MM. Muzzle blast from one of these short rifles can be incredible. Had one in .308 and when I would take it to the shooting range, other people would pack up and leave.
But anyway, they are traditionally accurate little rifles and wonderful to carry and hunt with. The biggest gripe against them was there VERY short action and magazine. They could be tedious to reload. Supposedly there was some flaw in their safety and Rem. lost a wicked law suit over the subject where some kid in Texas accidentally shot his father in the back with one and the lawyers blamed it on the rifle. So the story goes, this was why Rem stopped making them. We used to jokingly call these rifles, "Back Shooters." I think the whole lawsuit was BS, but if you can get enough anti-gunners on a jury, apparently no one cares. Get careless with any gun and it can bite.

CJ, I owned several and NEVER had any sort of accidental discharge. I never even thought of worrying about them firing when I closed the bolt. But I'm not doubting you for a minute.......just baffled.
Somewhere in my memory it seems that I had a rifle that if you put it on safety and then tried to pull the trigger, sometimes it would fire when you flipped the safety forward. Although this never actually led to an accidental discharge or I would have wrapped it around the nearest tree.
Remington safeties have always seemed kind of mickey mouse and the Mohawks were really cheesy. I don't have a Model 7 but I guess this is what the gun evolved into.

We had sevarl mohawks.. 243,308,2 6MMs, and even a 222.. I can't remember which one of them did it.. But I assure you it did.. It was either the 308 or the 6mm.. I believe the corrected the issue. In fact it may have even been due to a really light trigger pull..

I am not a gunsmith or a mechanical person, but I do know a thing or two about a Remington trigger. If you adjust the trigger down too far it will SLAM fire. Alot of people mess around with trigger's. It really is bad advice to do so, unless you are truly an expert. Tom.

For sure you can adjust triggers down where they will slam fire. Been there and done that. Part of adjusting a trigger down is making sure you can't slam fire the thing. You don't need ammunition in the gun, just cock it and slam the bolt shut as hard as you can. If it stays cocked after a few tries, you and probably good to go. I've never had one give me any trouble after this test butTom is sure correct that it can be a dangerous game. Adjust a trigger so you have some extra safety margin.

I own a 6mm and i have nothing but great things to say about it. In my opinion it out performs the 243win hands down. I know on the charts it doesnt look much better but on game performance has been spectacular. My 6mm will never leave my gun cabinent. Great long range shooter
