6mm verses 25/06
could someone tell me the ballistic difference in those 2 guns. I want a 25/06 but my dad has a 6mm action and said I should just buy a stock for it. What do you think. I will only be hunting deer with it.

The 6 mm Rem and .243 Win have many advocates, but I'd certainly choose shots even a little *more* carefully with one, in that a 100 grain bullet *may* have some problems with an accidentally encountered shoulder structure. Good luck whichever way you decide....

there is nothing wrong with a 6mm. i own one and shoot 70 gr ball. tips and let me tell you it works. i shoot the same bullet in a 243 youth for my son and yes it does the job well (even in the shoulder) . i own a 25-05 and like it to . i am hunting deer around 75 to 150 pounds come on the military uses 223 with 55 gr bullets on grown men. i would get that 6mm in shape and go hunting.

As for military use of the .223, the military does not particularly mind a "wounded enemy".
For 75-100 lb deer, sure, the .243 will do the job, however I'd hate to be armed for 75 lb deer and have to pass on a 250 lb one at 300 yards...(hey, it could happen!)
