Custom Ear Protection
#1
I am looking for some recommendations on custom fitting ear protection products.
To protect my ears I wear ear plugs along with muffs. However... all the ear plugs I have used are uncomfortable and cause soreness. My ears to tend to be very sensitive to foam and the plastic ear buds (that I have tried). My thinking is to try some custom plugs (that are fitted to the exact shape of my ear) to remedy my discomfort.
Any thoughts???

I have some of the custom molded type and they work pretty well. The only problem that I have is that they can lose some of their effectiveness with your cheekweld on some types of stocks. Hard to explain but when I lean over to shoot (off the bench) that ear canal ?? opens up some.
I prefer the silicone type plugs. They don't get uncomfortable and are easy to clean.

I wear hearing aids, due to many years of not protecting my hearing. Any place that sells hearing instruments should be able to make you some custom ear plugs. My hearing aids are new technology items from the Starkey company that adjust to SPL automatically. You can shoot with them on, but I still wear muffs over them at the range. by all means, do all you can to protect your hearing, the alternative sucks!
