Is the Encore rifle frame the same as the pistol frame?

Encore frames are registered, in a sense, that is why you need an FFL to ship or recieve a frame. Here in NY, if you plan to install a barrel less than 16" you will also need to register it as a pistol. But that will not stop you from also using it as a long gun.
Encore frames accept all Encore barrels; pistol, pro-hunter, regular Encore.
glockman, you will only see a marginal increase on muzzle velocity in a .243 by increasing barrel length from 24" to 28".

I really think that the term "registered" is misused here, because the FFL is required only to do a background check on the buyer not to register the gun. They only ask if it is a long gun or a hand gun when you call it in. There maybe some different laws from state to state, but the federal laws are not meant to create a gun registry.

The reason I asked is I see there are a few more options in barrel selection for the pro hunter. One more off topic question, do you think a 28" barrel wouldshoot better than a 24" barrel? in .243cal.

The frames are not registered at all. In fact you can purchased them seperately without a pistol, rifle or muzzleloader barrel. All encores are interchangeable as far as barrels and stocks are concerned. As mentioned before, it is illegal to use a rifle buttstock and a barrel less than 18" in length on the same frame. It is printed on the end of all rifle buttstocks. The Prohunter is just a newer version of the encore.

glockman55,
You will gain a few more FPS on the 4inch longer barrel, nothing worth buying another barrel if you already have a 24inch. The accuracy wouldn't be much if any, it could be worst. The 243 is designed for a 24-26 barrel for the best proformance. Now that doesn't mean a good tweaked handload in the right length barrel may not shoot better , by no means. The extra 4 inches on the barrel would be a hinderance to me in my hunting situations, but maybe not yours? Hope this helps.

I stated "Encore frames are registered, in a sense"; I was referring to the fact that the frame is the only serial numbered part of this gun. So, that is the only part that is documented for the BATF. Is is not necessary registered, but it's transfer must be documented when sold through a licensed dealer.
