Depending on how recoil shy you are is the most important question to answer. You diffenently want something your not afraid to shoot to stay on your target. If you decide which way you are going, give me an e-mail I have alike new in the case Super Redhawk in 44mag 7 1/2 Stainless Steel forsale if interested $525 shipped. [email protected]

I have nothing against overkill, I've been guilty of it myself a time or two! But, I'd go with the .44 Mag. It is plenty of gun to do the job. I would also choose the Super Redhawk if you are going to use it for hunting. The Alaskan is usually used as an un-scoped backup gun.

I also have nothing against "overkill" however I think I'dlean towards the 44 Mag also. I havea 44 Magin a stainless Redhawk, shorter than 7.5".... easy carry, not too heavy, warm and cuddly, not the most.... but it is a lot.
If I was going to specifically pursue Moose or Elk in a pistol hunt then I'd look at the S&W 500, but that is like carrying a mini-rifle.

I would go with the 44mag,its not like youll be going up against a 1000 pound griz....Check your state regs,Where I live you cant carry a sidearm or CCW while bowhunting the only way you can is if your bowhunting bear, then you can carry a backup.
