Default difference between 1100 and 11-87

what are the basic differences between the 1100 and 11-87 Remingtons?

Is the action better or worse on one?

Are they mechanicallyor fundamentaly different?

I have an 1100G3 and it is more or less an 11-87. In fact you can mount 11-87 barrels on the 1100G3 but the old 1100 barrels won't fit the 1100G3.

Pretty good information given so far. I've never owned an 1100,I know many guys that do though. I have two 11-87's. A 20 ga. Premier and an 11-87 Sportsman Deer. I have rifled cantileverbarrels for both. I have to get a 28 inch field barrel and regular stock for the 12 ga. and I'll be all set. I haven't had any problems with either of them. They seem like really well made shotguns. They're very easy to take apart and clean.
