Just picked up my Model Seven .204 this afternoon.
Rushed home, mounted the Leupold scope and took it out to shoot. It was right around dusk, but I was hoping to fire a couple of rounds and at least get it on paper.
An 8" flame shot out of the end of the barrel.
Is this normal for a rifle this fast? Never had anything this fast before.
Thanks

My dad had the smae thing with his 30-06. When he shoots at dusk it has an 10-12in fireball come out of the barrel. Ive never shot my 204 at dark so i dont know if it dose it but i will expect it to. As for the 204 compared to a 243. The 204 is alot smaller then a 243. Its more comparable to a 17 Rem, 223, 222.

Another thing to keep in mind is that because your Model 7 has a short barrel, there's more powder being burnt after the bullet leaves the muzzle than if it had a longer barrel. The short barrel shouldcontribute tomore noise, less velocity, and the huge fireball you're seing. Longer barrels have less muzzle blast and more velocity, but aren't as handy.
