RE: Fire Out Of Barrel
I bet there was gunpowder in the barrel! I hate when that happens!:D

RE: Fire Out Of Barrel
What d'ya expect to follow that lead out of the barrel? Water?:D
Its a controlled explosion, and thats what makes it fun!;) |
RE: Fire Out Of Barrel
Thanks for all the replies.
Makes complete sense, and yes, it sure was fun! That .204 has quite a bark With the wind slowing down this weekend, I will get it tuned in. All the local shops were sold out of the Hornady 32gr VMax, so I got a box of Remington 32grain Accutips. They looked similar. They also had some Winchester 34grain hallow-points, but I thought those might do more pelt damage, not sure though... |
RE: Fire Out Of Barrel
ORIGINAL: MDYoungBuck Just picked up my Model Seven .204 this afternoon. Rushed home, mounted the Leupold scope and took it out to shoot. It was right around dusk, but I was hoping to fire a couple of rounds and at least get it on paper. An 8" flame shot out of the end of the barrel. Is this normal for a rifle this fast? Never had anything this fast before. Thanks |
RE: Fire Out Of Barrel
i can see the fire from my 22-250 in broad daylight alot of times...it shocked me for a while becuase i have a 26" barrel on it.
my 870 turkey gun is also a fire spitter...think the 21" barrel has alot to do with that... you wanna see fire, shoot a flintlock at dusk :D |
RE: Fire Out Of Barrel
Yeah its normal, thats why guns are cool.
Dont shoot your eye out. |
RE: Fire Out Of Barrel
There's no comparison between the 204 and the 243 really...in two completely different leagues. The 204 can be compared to the 17 remington and the 220 swiftmore appropriately. Shoots a 40gr bullet over 4000 fps...very flat shooting..flatter than both the 17 Remington and the 220 swift actually. Happens to be on my "next to aquire" list :)

RE: Fire Out Of Barrel
A lot of people buy cheap Mosin nagant M44s just for the flash and the bang (they certainly don't buy them for the accuracy)

RE: Fire Out Of Barrel
Back to the original question...bullet velocity doesnt matter in the equation, it's the type and amount of powder used along with the length of barrel that determines the sizefire ball coming out of the muzzle. Try shooting an 30-06 load using R22 in an 18" carbine barrel, it's a pear burner!

RE: Fire Out Of Barrel
I had forgotten about this, I shot a doe in Dec 06 right at dark, and it looked like a flamethower. I would like to see my new 300WSM with the muzzlebrake shot at dark. That would look awesome.
