Really, I feel the 30-06 is all the gun you are ever going to need in NA with the exception of the largest brown bears. Period.

The 270 Win (or any flavor) is not small for moose. Lots of moose tip over to this cartridge every year up here in Alaska.

I'd get the 300 WSM or 30-06.

I'm placing my order for my graduation present and am wonderng what caliber gun will work for all 4 animals? I hope to someday be able to hunt all four and would love to do it with one gun. I'm looking at the Remington model 700's. I'm think about going with the .300 ultra mag or WSM. I don't think the .270 will quite cut it onmoose.
Your thinking about moose is a little off. Actually, moose are easier to kill than elk, but they almost never drop on the spot, no matter what you shoot them with! A 150-grain Nosler Partition bullet in a .270 Win. at 2900 FPS MV will take any game in North America, if you aim it at the correct spot.

However, for the list of game you are talking about, I would prefer a 7mm Rem. Mag, a .280 Rem., or a .30/'06. In that order. In the 7mm's, I'd use a 175 grain Nosler Partition bullet; in the '06, I'd use a 200-grain Nosler Partition.....

You can kill all those named critters with a 30-30, easy: just aim well, and hit the critter in the same place you should hit it, regardless of what (appropriate) cartridge you're using.

I use a .338mag for everything from deer to moose. Just change the bullet weight and aim where you need to and you will never have a problem. I know it is over kill but they drop in there tracks.

The .338 would be my choice on everything but the larger bears like "old grizz". For him, 45-70 using Garretts 540+P Hammerheads. Most big bear guides don't want to see less than a .338.

I would guess that more of thsoe animals have been taken with the 30-06 and 270 than all other calibers combined. Well I guess the 30-30 would be in that group as well. It the Huinter more than the tool.
Don't forget the .303..... There was a time when almost every household in Canada had a Lee Enfield.. The .303 killed lots a moose and I see a lot of natives with .303s every year shooting moose..

Mysuggestion is the 30/06 in a CDL with a nice Leupold... Ideal for all 4.

Thanks for all the help guys! I think I'm gonna go 7MM Rem Mag or the old 30/06. Many more choices in ammo and won't break the bank compared to the .270/.300 WSM

Go with the 30-06, you got .125 for long range pronghorn .165 for deer .180 for elk and .220 moose and big bear.
