Ruger Compact, question for owners...

Ruger Compact, question for owners...
I was looking at picking up a ruger Compact in 260 Rem. How is the accuracy in the stubby little critter? Recoil?? I was thinking it would be handy for me for a few years and then let the kids use it if recoil wasn't too severe...

That's my wife's main shooter. Hers is a .308 and shoots quite well. I put a Leuppy compact 3-7 on it, and she shoots Corbon DPX Hunters in 130gr. She's kinda small (like 5'2" and 110 lbs) and the recoil isn't bothersome for her. There are also the Managed Recoil loads available to "soften the blow". Often times short barrels shoot very accurately as they are less prone to flexing etc. Her groups are typically in the 1-1.5 inch range @ 100 yards. You may loose some velocity but likely not enough for normal hunting practicality. BTW, she loves this rifle and popped a nice 8 point this year. The trigger may require a little tweaking... hers cost me $35 for the gunsmith. Overall, I think it's a very good, rugged choice. Good luck. Hoped these tid-bits were helpful.

I have 1 in .308. It is a sweet little package too. Shoots 1" to 1 1/2" groups. Muzzle blast is up there though. I like it because it so user friendly, my 10 year old shot an axis buck with it last weekend.

I also read a review in a gun mag. (take that for what is worth) that the shorter barrel had no affect on the accuracy. I have a "full size" .270 Ruger but man I love the way those short guns feel.
