Has anyone noticed how it has seemingly came from obscurity to being chambered in nearly everything in the last 5 years? How many other catridges languished as long as this one did before taking off? I never seen one in the woods until 2004 now I see quite a few of them. Ths is obviously a fine cartridge but it sure did take its time taking off. Was this another case of Remington giving up on its ideas nearly immadiately or what? Glad it has taken off as it is one fine ride...

Part of the slow start as I have read was the use of weaker bullets designed for the slower lower pressure requirements of factory loaded 7x57..Old timers around my area would rant and rave how the little 7 would blow up bullets, waste meat, etc.....Factory loadeed ammo has came a LONG way in the 20 some years that has been around.

I bought my 1st 7mm-08 in 1990, I think. A Rem 700 BDL, still have it.
I do remember when I bought it, most people were curious and didn't know what it really was or could do. Most people thought of it as either an underpowered 308 or a slow 243 and would ask ..Why?. I considered it a short action 270, but I wasn't sure if I was right until I used it....

Yeah..............the old .280 Rem. had quite a rocky road for awhile too before people started to notice it. Bought my first on in 1963. People would look at me like I didn't know what I was talking about when I told them what I shoot. Just look at it's popularity in recent years.

7mm bullets are good stuff now. Good bc's and sd's and just about any weight or vairty you could ever ask for. Hard to go wrong with any of the 7's...big or little.

Most people around here where I live still have never heard of the 7 mm-08 until I moved here. When I first mentioned about it , most people were puzzled of a 7 mm bullet in a 308 cartridge. Wait till they see my 260 Remington...

Doe...I think it was similiar for the .270, most of us are just too young to remember...It came out in 1925 if I remamber correctly...Because the '06 was used in WW-I and WW-II it took awhile to catch on...
My younger brother bought both a 7mm-08 and a .280 back in the early '80s, I think the 7mm-08 came out in 1980...At any rate, him and his son still use them and they have gotten pretty popular here in NC...
