RE: how fardo you shoot a muzzleloader
ORIGINAL: bigcountry ORIGINAL: vabyrd Im just thankful that Im one of the few left that actually knows what hunting is all about... Some would say? I say that if you disagree with that statement, stay out of the woods. Preach on. I got back into bows this year. Yes, a stick and a string. That, to me, is the purest of the pure. |

RE: how fardo you shoot a muzzleloader
No, I said "back into bows this year". Meaning I picked it back up. As in starting over. Now if you want to blow smoke up your butt because you've shot longer than I have, go ahead.

Someone is a little arrogant, i'll let everyone figure out who it is...
P.S. When did fardo become a word :D just pickin |
RE: how fardo you shoot a muzzleloader
All the purest of pure and BS to the side, lets get back to original question for just a minute. How Far?? IMHO with todays choices with inlines, propellants, projectiles, etc. 200ish, is doable with skill and practice with a scoped inline. The majority of ML hunters I'd say theircomfort zoneis around150 yard max but preferably under:). To use the golf analogy I presonally like a chip shot vs a long iron on approach when it comes to hunting, so I set up as close as possible to increase the odds in my favor.
As to the get close, etc talk well thats all fine and dandy for you. However I personally think making a stalk/hunting an animals over open very terrain andmaking a successful shot (which maybe longer then you are use to out of your elevated stand),to be an attributeof a hunters skill as well. Not all long shots are without hardships and challenges to get tothe point to even think about a shot, never mind the skill, practice and persistance required to pull the shotoff with confidence and effeciency. As I mentioned the closer the better but here on the prairie's that may be a little different then the woods hunter see. So not everything is good for goose and gander, different terrain means different circumstances and that brings with it different perspectives on the gammet of things that defines hunting. Shooting is a skill and IMO fits into the criteria of hunting, everybody has limits to their ability and as long as they stick to those limits and realizations I have no problems supporting their efforts. It is the lead in the air hope in the heart mentality I can't stand[:@]. Almost as badis the high and mighty, that think their way is the only "pure" way...[:'(] Hunting is a personal sport, it starts and ends with theperson staring back at you in the mirror. Just my opinion:) |

ORIGINAL: vabyrd Why is it that all the world cares about anymore is how far they can shoot and how one gun is a better killer than another. Blackpowder is another area of hunting that went wrong. When black powder season first started, what was everyones gun of choice?? CVA Hawkens, Lyman Great Plains, Kentucky's?? And you only had them for fun to begin with. Open sights, wood stock. If you were really advanced, you had pre-measured powder and maxi-balls. Show up with some of that gear and see the looks you get. Now we've got BDC scopes, in-lines, electronic ignition rifles, and good gosh what else? Now we've got to know what to do to stretch it out another 50 yards. I swear, hunters are like golfers. Put an ad on the TV that says Driver X will go another 25 yards and every jacka$$ will be in line to get one. Doesn't matter that they suck at every other aspect of the game. Everyone wants to tell the big story. I shot my deer at 400 yards, I can hit my driver over 300 yards. Well, they both can kiss my a$$. I've never walked out of the woodsor off the golf course dissapointed, regardless of the outcome. Im just thankful that Im one of the few left that actually knows what hunting is all about... vabyrd.........I want to be just like you ![]() one of the few left ![]() Now thats funny right there, I don't care who you are...GIT ER DONE |

Im just thankful that Im one of the few left that actually knows what hunting is all about... I used to own a few older cap and ball muzzle loaders, still own a pistol actually. The new inlines are better. It is not a gimmick like expensive drivers they are actually better. I bowhunt as well, but I use a Bowtech instead of a 15 year old bow with round wheels so I guess that means I suck at bowhunting as well. I still use aluminum arrows if that makes you feel any better. And I can group arrows at 70 meters, doesn't mean I shoot deer that far. I'm going to get a .243 for varmint hunting pretty soon, I guess that means I suck at that as well. I mean I really don't need anything more than a beat up crossman pellet gun with a cheap half inch scope right? I mean that will kill a woodchuck if I was good enough to get close to it and put enough pellets in it. By the way I like to golf as well, but I use cheap crappy clubs from a chain store. I pretty much blow at it but I still have fun when I go. I don't believe a 400 dollar driver will make me golf any better though. Paul |
RE: how fardo you shoot a muzzleloader
i think you misunderstood what i was asking it for
i do not care about shooting 400 yards 300 yards or even 200 yards i was asking just so i know heck i can shoot my bow out to 50 yards but i do not no matter what i am hunting or what withif i cannot get it in within a 100 yards i need toquit hunting. thats not to say if i see one 150 and can make the shot i wont i am sure it will take me some time to shoot out to 100 with a ml also i like the look of the older guns but i will buying the most up to date gun i can just because Daniel Boone shot his deer with powder and round balls does not mean i wont use sabots and pellets ORIGINAL: vabyrd Why is it that all the world cares about anymore is how far they can shoot and how one gun is a better killer than another. RE: how fardo you shoot a muzzleloader
also i think it is alittle unethical for someone to use a weapon that is less accurateand less reliablejust because it is older or shoots alittle closer
