Default My deer hunting babies

From top to bottom:

Browning A-bolt Medallion, 30-06, gold inlay engravings, custom maple stock by yours truly, Charles Daly 3-9 x 44 TV recticle scope. It's a tack driver, and taken afield regularly. Ol' Bessie can always be counted on. If my life depended on one shot I would choose this rifle. The longest shot with it was 398 (or 389) yards at a doe in a right-of-way and I heart shot her.

Browning BLR, 300WSM, Leupold VXI 3-9 x 40. It's my bear/stalk gun. I love it, but I have been known to throw some extra lead down range when I get worked up, lol. One day I'll actually go on a bear hunt, but it's sure lived up to the stalking aspect. This gun is a great stalk gun, so flickable and light. I don't even put a sling on it, I have a little parachute cord sling I made for it stashed away in my cargo pocket if I need to sling it while pulling a deer.

Winchester Featherweight, 1st year model, .280 Rem, can't remember the scope. I have had some bad luck with this rifle, but I am going to the range next week and test it out at different ranges and magnifications to make sure I don;t have a bad scope. The last time I shot it it was .5 MOA but then I missed a broadside deer at 70 yards with a rest and you'll just have to believe me that there was no buck fever involved. Honestly, I don't take this gun out because every time I take it out to get some confidence back it seems like I miss a deer, lol. I'd actually trade it in for a different model but my father bought it for me and that would break his heart.

Up next:

Two 7.7 Jap's. I just sent away my C&R application the other week and when it arrives I will be building 2 custom Arisaka's with a similar maple stock. After I cut my teeth on that I am going to try and buiild 2 custom 1903 sporters and 2 custom M98 sporters. My goal is to make some money building and engraving rifles this year. The two 1903's will remain 30-06's and I think I want to build the M98's in .280 Rem.

Nice, does that 444 have a nice kick in a light single shot like that?

7mm-08 will be the caliber I buy for my son, we're bypassing the 30-30 days. I think I am going to get him that Maply 7600 Remington pump (i always wanted that gun, lol).

A nice varmint centerfire is something I need to get. For what ever reasonI just keep pushing it down the list. I built a mean 10/22 converted to a 17HM2 but I need to rework the hammer and sear kit, the damn thing shot full auto on me when i went to test it out. It was a shame too, because the first shot was 3 inches high and dead center.

The 444 has a little punch to it.. Right after the season it is getting a laminated thumbhole stock to help me hold it down a little better.
