Well, have you had a rifle built with that barrel? How was it? Did you like it?
Nope , pretty new company and no newcustom rifle is in the works right now yet. There are some gunsmiths strongly recommending them most of them in Wisconsin where I believe they are located as well.
http://www.bartleinbarrels.com/ I was hoping someone on here could be a guinea pig and find out how they work. Seems like they have quite a backlog already so something must be right.

That's true. But i didn't realize that Bighorn Sheep were that picky as to what they prefer to be shot with. Them darn sheep are getting smarter every day huh?

For me it's that I can only geta 358 STA in a custom barreled gun.
If the sheep don't care guess you don't mind using a Stevens 200 with a Tasco scopeand Cabelas bulk ammo, so what 1.5 group at 100 yards and 6 inches at 300?

Funny no one mentioned Bartlein...startup barrel company that started with Kriegers shop foreman and a few Krieger employees.
I had to look that one up since Krieger is just down the road from me. Bartlein appears to be located in a bout a 5 minute walk from my house. I'll have to check them out[8D]

I had a rifle built last year buy a smith who specializes in extreme range hunting rifles his words were, "I'll use any barrel you want but I reccomend Lilja, Kreiger, Lawton, Broughton, or Rock creek"

I have three rifles with custom tubes on them. I have barrels from Krieger, Shilen, and Hart. For my next project, I plan to use a Pac-Nor barrel. All of my rifles with custom barrels shoot well and clean up nicely. None of these barrels are too fussy with loads or bullet selection. They all seem to shoot just about everything I feed them.
This past summer I wanted a light weight varminter. Instead of going the custom route again, due to time constraints, I chose to buy an off-the-rack rifle. I picked up a Rem LVSF in .223, and I am disappointed every time I take it to the range. I have had the rifle bedded and recrowned, and it's extremely picky with ammo. The only bullet I've found that it consistently shoots well is the 53gr Sierra. This is the most tempermental rifle I've ever worked with. This rifle is getting rebarreled in the spring.
In hindsite, I should have taken the time to get it right the first time.....or, maybe I am just too picky.

I've personally used Douglas, Shilen, & Lilja barrels. They are all excellent, andI've heard that Kreiger and Hartare as well. Recently I've started using Douglas barrels exclusively.I have been extremely pleased with the results. In the end Idoubt that you would go wrong with any of the manufacturers you mentioned.

old elk, what that means is they're the best of the best, cause if a rifle wouldn't shoot 1" (or very close to it) groups at 500 yds it doesn't leave that smiths shop, if you were building a rifle to perform to those standards would you depend on a reputation?

Let's put it this way-if a berrel don't meet my accuracy requirements-I'm out the cost of that barrel and cannot send it back because I've already threaded, chambered, contoured, installed, and fired it. The finished rifle HAS to meet my accuracy standards or MY reputation is on the line. I warrant every single of my rifles to meet preagreed accuracy level as per customer's wishes. If a barrel maker can't supply me with the BEST barrels available,I'm done with them.
