Its for deer. It is just really big shot. Its .33 inches. There are other sizes of buckshot then just 00. here is a chart from Federal that gives you all the buckshot sizes.

Let me give you an example;
Wolf makes a 12ga. shell in 2 3/4" 00 and only holds 9 pellets!
They're big.

Buckshot is normally used for deer hunting at very close range or home defense.Buckshot comes in several sizes #4 being the smallest and 000 the largest. You should be able to find the actualpellet sizeonan ammunition makers website. You may want to try the Remington site, it normally have alot of good info.

If my old memoryis right, 00 Buck is 32 cal and 000 is 36 cal but I could bewrong.

00 buckshot is a .33-caliber round lead ball that weighs about the same as a .22 long rifle bullet. The best use of them is for loading .32 to .36 caliber muzzleloading rifles- for target shooting only! I have also used them for plinking loads in 8mm rifle cartridges and the .32/40 Marlin/Ballard case.

"Its for deer. It is just really big shot."
Buckshot is now illegal for deer hunting in manystates, as it should be! IF you have the willpower to limit your shooting at deer to 20-25 yards, it can be effective. It's also great for protection against lions, tigers & bears (OH MY!!) that are about to bite you, if you shoot them up close where the shot charge acts like one huge, solid projectile! But if you take shots with it at ranges where the pattern has opened up to where only 3-5 of the pellets strike the deer in various places, vital and not-so-vital, it can permit a deer to run off to die a long way from where it was shot! I once sawa little buck that had three 00-buck pellets through it, twothrough the lungs and one in the heart, that had travelled 1.5 miles from where it was shot (Fort Pickett, VA). If we had not been using hounds that day, we never would have found that deer.
