im 17 and you need to be 21 to get a permit in ny,from what i have heard, should i apply now, cuz my buddies dad applied for one 4 years ago, and nothing has happened since. haha, im sure that wouldnt work so dontstart rattlin off on me alright. i jsut find it rediculous theres such a stink about it, in my oppinion it should be 18 like all other guns, i guesss week waiting period is fair, but come on, 4 years and nothing?

I believe 21 is a federal, rather than state, requirement. So it would be the same in all states.....

ADK hunter,

You need to wait until you are 21. It sucks I know. The application is more of a hassle and you need to take a safety course. I am 24 now and I did all of the application process in Albany county. It took four months to hear back and I have a restricted permit. From what I've heard is that not many people are givin the ccw permitt without a special reason.I have a clean record and what not and still didnt have that option. However, it is definitely worth the hassle.

I'm sure your friends dad was either denied or filled out his paperwork wrong or he's just messing with you. They are required to notify you within a set period of time if you have been denied. I used to live in Oneida county, but got my permit in Clinton county. I believe Oneida requires you to take a "safe handling" course where Clinton did not. However, all of our permits are issued with restrictions. The only person I know who has a full carry is my wife, but the judge was her father's lawyer. You might be able to attend the class before you turn 21, that would at least get things rolling.

You have a couple of years to brush up on your acting skills. Becoming a famous actor or politician should grease the wheels for you to get a permit.

State of Michigan allows you to sell privately a hangun to a person 18 years of age or older (handgun must still be "registered" with the local sheriff or police dept by purchaser). You must be 21 to purchase through an FFL and to 21 to purchase handgun specific ammunition (which is subjective in some regards).

They have to give you a reason of why it is taking so long in 6 months. Mine took 2 months and my dads took 3-4 weeks. Onondaga has the restrictions also. 4 different judges all with different view on who needs a CCW.
