I have a .223 with the laminate stock and heavy barrel. It is a great shooter...much more accurate than I am! I love mine.
A .243 would be a little more versitile than my .223.

I heard the triggers weren't the best out of the box. One of my friends had one and the trigger was crisp, but in the 6# range.

I have 2 and my son has 1. As soon as they make one in 7mm-08 I'll have 3. They're cheap, functional, and accurate

I have an H&R Ultra Varmint in 243 Win. Good little shooter. I also have a 45-70 Govt barrel for it and it shoots good too. I will buy another as soon as I get my tax return. For the money they are hard to beat.

Ditto what everyone else has said. I have an H&R in .308 and love it. Inexpensive without being cheap, well built, and has tons of personality. If you like singles you can't go wrong with NEF/H&R. Like NE Hunter said, as soon as they make a 7mm-08 barrel, I'll have one of those too.

I love them too. I have a H@R 30-30. I shoot Barnes X bullets and Nosler Ballistic tips in it. I also had one in 45-70 I wish I still had it. Sold it to a friend of mine to take on a Black Bear hunt. He won,t sell it back to me now. I think I will pick one up at a gun show this week end if I find a caliber that I want. I could use one in 223 as I have a lot of loading stuff for them. I traded my 223 for a 22-250 a few months ago.

I've got a couple and love em. I have a couple rifles that are worth 5X what the Handi-Rifle's are worth...and they can't out shoot em.

If you don't like the trigger, just send it back to H&R with a check for $20, and they'll lighten it considerable. I did, and it was well worth it. Their turn-around was even fast.

i've got 1 in a 270 and like it, just kicks like a mule. It has more recoil than my dad's model 700 270
