Not unless the .30/'06 is light for bears! We're talking BLACK bears here, and anything that will kill a big deer cleanly will do the same to a black bear. But bullet placement is critical. I'd use a premium bullet, but that 's just me -165 to 200 grain. I have killed black bear quite easily with A .270 Win., using 150-grain Nosler Partition bullets. Ranges were from about 30 yards to over 200 yards.....

My vote goes for any brand name 180 grain that shoots well in your gun... If i used 150's then it would HAVE to be a premium bullet like NP's...

A 308 with 180's is an excelent blk bear round!

I agree with DM However I have to add one of my favorites, the 190 grain Hornady Interlock.

I've killed a few bears with a .308. Just use some factory 180 grn Remington roundnose . They work and at 50 yds they will shoot good enough to kill black bears.
My favorite bear gun over bait is the Blr in .358 win. with .250 grn speer. No bear has gone more than 20 ft. after being shot I've killed 26 with this combination.

I have a buddy that used the fusion ammo for bears and it worked great....dont everlet anyone tell yaa 308 is too light for black bear![:'(]

I've got aRem. .308 that I hunt black bears with. I've never actually shot a bear with the bullet, but I'm shooting Federal's 180gr Nosler Partitions and I feel very confident with it.

If you can use a 30/30 on black bears to 100 yards then a .308 with 150+ gr. bullet oughta get the job done with flying colors.

You guys are the best. Thats about the response i had hoped for. I know its plenty gun for bear, just wanted to hear some personal favorites from you guys. By the way I did say I bought the gun for the mrs. I dont think she would like the punch from behind using a .358. She only tips the scale at about 110 the day after Thanksgiving. Thanks alot though, everybody.
