Default Pistol Scope

I'm going to be buying a new pistol in the next month or so. Probablya Ruger in 44mag. I'll use itfor whitetail in PA. I want to put a scope on it and was wondering what you guys thought would be a good one or what works for you. I guess the diameter doesn't change much, but what about the power?

I have a Millet Red Dot scope on myRuger Super Redhawk 44mag. and I am really happy with it. It has a 3 moa dot. Note: dot covers about three inches at 100yds. It is fastsight picture due to no power and accurate. It has a reistate with 11 setting for brightness. It has held up with heavy 320gr. wfln hard cast handloads pushing 1320fps. My hunting partner has one on his Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley. I even use one on my Ruger MKII 6-7/8" side slab 22LRhandgun and have Taken ground squirrels about 80yds. This is another option to a powered scope.

I have a Bushnell 2-6 x 32 Long eye relief scope like the one here but in nickel finish to match my Ruger Hunter 44 Mag

I like it.

It depends on the distance you want to hunt. I think most Ruger's are limited to 75 or 100 yards. The Leupold Gilmore is a dandy. The red dot is really nice. I have one on my S&W Stealth Hunter. It works great to 100 yards with a 2 minute dot. If you want a variable I like the Burris. The Burris seems to have the best eye relief. At least it does for me. Tom.

I put a Leupold 2X on my blackhawk 44mag and have been very happy with it. I don't believe that I would want anymore magnification than that.... I believe the 2X is plenty for the range of the 44mag.
