I think you need to go look at some a little closer. I have a NEF Ultra Slug that has the heavy bull barrel with just the scope rail on top. According to you, this gun doesn't exist. Maybe I have the only one in existence! I'm sitting on a gold mine! LOL!!!!!

I would give a picture of the NEF version but they're the exact gun.
From the website:
"In November of 2000, the Marlin Firearms Company purchased the assets of H&R 1871, Inc. Marketing its products under the brand names of Harrington & Richardson® and New England Firearms®, H&R 1871, LLC is currently the largest manufacturer of single shot shotguns and rifles in the world."

I have seen a few versions of the heavy barrel with the NEF logo in my local gun shop Matt. I don't believe I have ever seen them listed on the website though. I think they had a NEF medalion in the stock or something.
I don't think I have ever seen a 20 ga though.
Doesn't matter which you get, they are the same gun.

You're correct. the medalion is about the only difference between the two. I have the NEF 20 guage and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm only giving up about 200 FPS to the 12 guage but my gun is lighter and it kicks less. What's not to like? LOL!

Have had a 12 gauage Ultra Slug gun for about six years and it
is the most accurate slug gun I have ever owned.Always sighted
it in at 50 yards with 5 shots going in at 1 1/2 inches consistently
using the Barnes Expanders made by Federal.By far the most accurate
slug gun on the market today.Have shot many deer with mine with
most dropping right on the spot.If you get one I would reloctite the
screws on the base that is supplied with gun as mine was not tight
enough so do that before mounting your scope. The 20 gauage would
be a excellent choice.Good Luck with your purchase as they are a
fantastic gun for the price.

You absolutely cannot go wrong purchasing a H & R Ultra slughunter. I have the 12 gauge, since the 20 gauge was not available yet when I purchased a few years ago. Two years ago I killed a 16" 3 x 4 whitetail at 150 honest, per Leica rangefinder, yards. I have found that my rifleprefers the Winchester Platinum Tip sabots. So far, no deer I have aimed at in the last four years, has walked away from this load. At 400 grains though, I think they put outabout the sameenergyas hitting them with your car. That is the main reason why, the only thing I would change now, would be to purchase the 20 gauge version. When you first pickup one of these rifles they sure seem heavy, but after pulling the trigger a few times with the magnum sabot loads, you really appreciate the weight. I have not shot the 20 gauge, but have to imagine it putting a lot less recoil into your shoulder. Install a neoprene stock cartridge holder on one of these, and you have more fire power than you can imagine.

If you are a sucker for laminated stocks, and especially thumbhole stocks as I am, you can get the H&R for somewhere between $300 and $365 on Gunbroker. Here are the 20 and 12.

Of course, add about $50 for shipping and your FFL fee.
Most excellent deerslayers.
